Dave's Birthday and an Update from Indiantown

Yesterday was Dave's birthday. Robert, a sailing friend from Ottawa drove down from his winter abode two and a half hours north of Indiantown in New Smyrna Beach and stayed overnight.
We had dinner last evening with Tracy at Hippocrates which was great. We'd never had raw 'ribs' before. I made Dave's birthday cake from an Alissa Cohen recipe: 2 cups organic walnuts and 2 cups organic raisins put through the food processor and molded into shape; the icing was made in the food processor as well from 1 cup dates and the juice of one half lemon. Yummm...
This morning, we're problem solving an electrical problem with the tri-colour navigation light at the top of the mast.

We hope to make our way to Lake Worth this afternoon in order that we get down to Miami by tomorrow evening before the winds are forecast to increase. Time will tell, as usual. It's a boat!
Here's a glimpse of what life here in Indiantown looks like and some shots from my afternoon walks.

Our's is the beige boat against the wall at the left.
This is the yard at the marina where in past winters we have left our vehicle for the winter while we're cruising.

This is representitive of where I walk each afternoon.
Dave says the bird in the tree is a turkey vulture.
There are lots of orange and grapefruit groves in this area. It's industrial farming unfortunately.
I often see armadillos foraging for food along the road.
Some of the modest houses in the area have beautiful bushes in bloom.

This is a photo of our friend's steel-hulled boat which they recently sold. The new owners are repairing the hull and plan to go through the Panama canal, on to Hawaii and then north to Alaska.
